I’ve always been fascinated by the legendary vaudevillians who made it into film.
Charlie Chaplin, ever since my mom dropped my brothers and I at the Northstar Theatre downtown to see The Gold Rush as she went across the street to whichever theatre was there to see Goldie Hawn in Butterflies Are Free (I think).
With Abbott & Costello, it was because they had a cartoon, and it blew my little mind that these cartoon characters were real guys.
Same with Laurel & Hardy.
Robert Downey Jr. earned an Oscar nomination for playing Chaplin, and this one looks like it has the potential to be very good as well.
That’s John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy. British actor Steve Coogan plays Stan Laurel (no relation to Jackie Coogan, the star of Chaplin’s The Kid.)
