I’ve been in the radio business for a few decades now and I’m frequently asked, who’s your favourite band. Have to be honest, I hate that question because I love so many! For me it’s about the way the music makes me feel and if it makes me feel good or gives goosebumps, I don’t care who it is. But, I do have a special place in my heart for one band and that’s Kingston Ont’s, Headstones.
I was just getting into radio in the early 90’s. I was honing my skills by first doing overnights. That was a killer. Midnight to 6am. Yuck. But, there was this band who were also starting out and folks in the music biz were talking amongst themselves about the kick ass rockin live shows that this band was doing. Well, of course had to go check them out! We became “friends”. We’d would hang out after shows, I would intro them in the clubs. One time I somehow ended up in Adam Beach’s basement, on Edwin from I Mother Earth’s lap as Hugh Dillon sang karoke! Oh, the days before cells phone. Hugh and I were talking saying how both our careers could have ended with some of the shit we did at those shows! haha There’s noone else that I have had this kind of connection with in music. To see a band start and then mature, is really an honour to be apart of. Just a radio jock and a rock band who love to kick ass!!
