Her name is Yoyoka Soma. She raised eyebrows (to say the least) and stole hearts last spring when a video hit the Web of her channelling John Bonham, and just crushing Led Zep’s Good Times Bad Times on her drums.
Also, she’s 8.
Now, she’s at it again.
Soma posted a new video last month, shortly after a huge earthquake and tsunami hit Japan. Yoyoka (or her parents) tweeted out the post, saying, “Many people are still suffering from the earthquake in Hokkaido. I was afraid of the power outage in my house and the intensity of 5 [was] too long. The typhoon damage is also nationwide. So I wanted to cheer everyone up.”
When she posted the video on YouTube , she added, “Fortunately none of us were hurt, but I was thinking what I could do in the face of two consecutive days of fear and lack of sleep and the power outages that followed. The drums can beat even without electricity.”
This time, it’s Communication Breakdown. Yoyoka self-critiques it as, “…a very rough performance, but it makes me happy even if you smile a little.”
Speaking of smiles, love her grin while she plays.
If you missed her playing Good Times, Bad Times check it out:
When Robert Plant saw it, he was suitably impressed:
That first video led to a cameo in a Nike commercial:
