One of the most famously electrifying guitar performances in rock history happened at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction gala in 2004.
That’s when – during the traditional finale jam – Prince stepped up to the front of the stage, and the likes of Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (of ELO and Travelling Wilburys) and Steve Winwood all played along, some smiling, some slack-jawed with the rest of the audience as Prince dug in.
At the end of the blistering solo, Prince tossed his guitar into the audience, and where it went from there has always been a mystery.
As it turns out, Prince would often toss his guitars into the crowd at the end of his shows, where one of his guitar techs would be standing by in the front row waiting to catch it.
That night at the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall Of Fame, that tech was to catch the guitar as usual, but this time, he’d been given instructions to hand it to…Oprah, who likely has it to this day – while Prince turned and strutted offstage, cool as all get-out.
The full story is HERE, but really, this was just an excuse for me to post the video of the face-melting solo again!
