Technology is taking over our lives whether we like or not. It effects all aspects of our lives. How we stay in touch with family and friends, how we date or just when we need to instantly find out the name the song we can’t remember. But we are now starting to notice the negative effects of this hyper-connectivity. Take smartphone addiction, for example. If you feel like you check your phone far too often, you’re not alone.
Could we be craving a simpler time? If the sales of this toy is any indication, we sure do. One of the hottest toys right now? The Rubik’s Cube. Last year was its biggest year in retail sales since the Rubik’s craze of the ’80s, making $250 million in 2017. It’s a 45 percent increase from the previous year!
Like most trends, there’s not one single reason why everyone’s going crazy for Rubik’s Cubes right now. Forget fidget spinners, they are so yesterday as the world quickly moved on, but the Rubik’s Cube is still going strong. Get this, when Erno Rubik invented the cube in 1974, it took him over a month to solve it. The current world record holder is Max Park who solved it in just 6.85 seconds in 2017!
