This will take you right back to the times you used to run home from school (or if you were lucky) to watch AT school when they’d roll in the TV stand) to watch Apollo launches.
This afternoon, SpaceX program launched the most powerful rocket currently in service, the Falcon Heavy.
The Heavy is equipped with three boosters and 27 engines designed to provide five-million pounds of thrust.
SpaceX chief Elon Musk has his Tesla Roadster on board, with plans to have it orbit around the sun as far out as Mars and make laps for a billion years.
A few minutes after the launch – not making this up – panels at the head of the rocket blew away, so that SpaceX’s “Spaceman” manequin – IN THE TESLA MIND YOU – can cruise forever in space.
Because the launch is to test the viability for the U.S. Air Force of the rocket’s heavy capacity, must said he wanted to put the silliest cargo possible on-board, and decided on his own Tesla roadster.
This is an actual photo of the car in space moments after the panels were blown away.
