If you grew up watching wrestling in the 70’s or early 80’s, you’ll certainly remember that what was on television didn’t necessarily have the best production values. It wasn’t until Vince McMahon teamed up with Dick Ebersole from NBC to do Saturday Night’s Main Event in the late 80’s that wrestling became a legit television phenomenon. Well, current WWE wrestlers like John Cena, Chris Jericho and more have teamed up to parody the wonderful world of 70’s/80’s regional wrestling shows in a series called ‘Southpaw Regional Wrestling’. It’s outstanding. There are 4 episodes and they trace the feuds to SRW’s biggest show of the year ‘Lethal Leap Year’. They feature John Cena and Fandango as color commentators Lance Catamaran and Chet Chetterfield, Winnipeg’s own Chris Jericho as backstage announcer Clint Bobski, Rusev as Big Bartholomew, Cesaro as masked luchadore La Barba Grande, an unknown wrestler as Sea Creature and so many more. Take 30 minutes of your life and waste it here, with me.
