Vincent. Vincent Van Gogh. Tortured genius…and extraordinarily-talented painter.
Sadly, he wasn’t particularly successful in his own time. Also, the ear thing.
You know that thing when you’ve painted a window frame outside the house, and you stand back to admire it…just as a mosquito lands on it, and gets stuck in the wet paint? Then you try to get the bug out and it just messes up your beautiful paint job.
Same thing happened to poor Vincent. After who knows how many hours painting his absolutely stunning piece, “Olive Trees”, at some point, while the thick oil paint was still fresh, a grasshopper landed on it. Vincent clearly tried to remove it, but he just made it worse.
Eventually, he just left it…the carcass of a dead grasshopper, right there in the painting.
There now, you won’t feel so badly the next time it happens to you.
I here to help.
Check out the full story as reported by the Kansas City Star, which is appropriate, because it was there that another tortured artist – Ernest Hemingway – began his writing career.
