Here in Manitoba, we’re coming to the end of another skydive season; we’ll be at it until the end of the month.
I ran across this video that illustrates the kinds of shenanigans that we can get up to in this sport.
Non-jumpers tend to fixate on the “jumping out of a plane”-part, but once you get trained up, you come to understand that the plane is just the elevator to get us up to jump altitude.
That’s when the fun starts!
Unfortunately, here in Manitoba we typically don’t have big enough skydive planes flying to do a slip n slide like this…at the moment.
A few years back, a bigger plane did stop by our Gimli drop zone on its way to the Nationals out west. We did what you do…taking a giant goose-shaped pool toy out the door during one jump (the head ripped off), and a rubber dinghy with two jumpers riding and the rest of us flying with/stabilizing it.
Good, clean fun!
