At this point, it shouldn’t be surprising to find out that Facebook is actually re-wiring our brains…but now it’s out actual wiring for memory that is being “re-sculpted”.
Apparently the brain is very susceptible to being visually fooled. The example they use is that if some time down the road you’re on Facebook and you look through a bunch of photos taken at a party after you left, you can be 100% convinced that you were there when whatever is in the photos happened.
It’s kind of a twist on the familiar, “If you didn’t get photos, it didn’t happen”, refrain.
