Growing up in the St. Andrews/Lockport area, I remember when they built Skinner’s Wet n’ Wild water park. Hell, who hasn’t worked at Skinner’s a summer or two! I hated having ice cream duty. Hard ice cream, the WORST. Having to stick your arm in gooey bucks all day, trying to get that perfect scoop. But it was almost like a right of passage having to put your time in at the legendary Skinner’s restaurant. Did you know the original restaurant opened 1929 when Selkirk store keeper Jim Skinner Sr. opened a small stand in Lockport. The 10 cent hot dogs and 5 cent fries. The original Skinner’s location at the St. Andrews Lock and Dam is the oldest hotdog outlet in continuous operation in Canada. There’s been the debate for year’s on who has a better hot dog, Skinner’s or Half Moon, but that’s another story.
Now that the Wet n Wild water slide is finally being demolished, seems many are looking back at the memories it once created.
It’s been in eye sore for year’s, but I have to admit it feels like another little sign of my childhood disappearing. What do you remember about the waterpark? Are you sad to see it go are it’s about time?
