If you’re ordering in Asian food this weekend, take note of the numbers on the fortune cookie.
A mathematician by the name of Walt Hickey (funny…doesn’t sound like the name of a mathematician) just worked out that over a nearly 20-year stretch, playing the fortunes’ numbers in the US Powerball would have left a hypothetical gambler with a slight profit (just under $175), while playing random numbers would leave that same gambler with a $2,540 deficit.
That’s not enough to say that the “Lucky numbers” in a fortune cookie are actually lucky, but as Hickey says, they’re not NOT lucky.
Also, Asian food is delish, so you’re already a winner.
